As many of you know, we recently lost a legend!

Dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer in September and was told that without treatment, he would have up to a year left or with treatment two years, maybe longer.

After having biopsy’s and other tests, he was told that operating to remove the Tumor was not an option due to the cancer having already spread and that chemotherapy was the best way to try and fight it.

He went for three rounds of chemo and seemed to be doing really well, insisting that after Christmas he wanted to get back to work and the gym as he couldn’t put up with any more day time television. He remained really positive throughout his treatment and was adamant that he would fight it until the end, often saying “I’m not going anywhere yet, don’t you worry about that”.

Sadly, after spending a fantastic Christmas together with family and friends, dad took a turn on Boxing Day and was admitted to hospital shortly after. His condition  continued to deteriorate and he decided that the best place for him to receive the care he needed would be at St Elizabeth’s Hospice.

Dad spent 10 days at the hospice and passed away peacefully in the early hours of the 26th January. In what can only be described at the worst possible situation to find yourselves in as a family, the staff at the hospice were nothing short of incredible. They did everything necessary to make sure dad was as comfortable and pain free as possible, allowing him to spend his final days with family around him. They are not only there for the patient but also the family, I will never be able to thank them enough for the support they gave us and the way they looked after our dad.

Myself and Victoria, along with family and friends, are taking part in the Midnight Walk 2019 and would love to raise as much money for St Elizabeth’s hospice as possible.

If you can spare anything to support the work they do at the hospice and in the community, it would be greatly appreciated.
